Not an attempted jinx, not disrespect to Notre Dame, but surely not a lie. The 2024 Ohio State Buckeyes are simply the best team in the nation and nobody can stop them. There may have been plenty of deserved angst directed towards Ryan Day this year and years of the past, but this title victory is a testament to the Day’s unyielding determination throughout a tumultuous head coaching career thus far. To make this even more pleasurable, it’s comforting to know that your national championship-winning coach won’t be poached by NFL teams searching for someone with fresh scouting strategies. Here is your 2024 National Champions Ohio State Buckeyes season in review:
A Season of Ups and Downs
The last thing this journey to the championship has been for Ohio State was smooth. It all began with a shift in the college football world as Alabama faced challenges following the departure of their legendary coach, Nick Saban. That was the second biggest retirement in College Football in 2024, with the SEC as a whole coming in first. The Alabama players fled as quickly as the SEC forgot where the CFP was played.
Leaving Alabama, and possibly the biggest pickup for the Buckeyes, Caleb Downs became a major contributor for Jim Knowles. This movement gave the initial charge to the season, which ultimately is where the confidence in this article began brewing. Also coming from Alabama was Quarterback Julian Sayin and Center Seth McLaughlin.
The First Ohio State Buckeyes Setback
Midway through the season, Ohio State football faced their first reality check. They lost their sixth game to the same team they beat in ten real-life minutes after kickoff during the Rose Bowl. This loss might have been a wake-up call, but it’s nothing compared to what they would later face against “The Team Up North” (TTUN for those unfamiliar with football, and a reminder for those who watch too closely, such as TTUN themselves).
A Strategic Play Against Michigan
The season then brought the game against Michigan, where the Buckeyes, in a masterful Ryan Day performance, lost to ensure perfect playoff seeding. This calculated move effectively allowed Ohio State to face their ideal first round matchup, who they knew they would knockout by the first commercial break.
Ryan Day’s brilliance now is on full display, as the plan unfolded perfectly and he now has one title under his belt. His ability to execute, especially in throwing the Michigan game to secure the optimal path, has now proven that patience is indeed required when evaluating head coaches – or just a little extra film study.
Epic Championship Clash
For Notre Dame to have a fighting chance against Ohio State, Jeremiyah Love would need to deliver a performance similar to Cameron Skattebo’s historic performance in the Peach Bowl. This requirement isn’t a knock on Notre Dame’s talent, but a testament to Ohio State’s exceptional roster. The Buckeyes have simply built an unbeatable powerhouse starting depth chart, not scout team roster. Notre Dame is absolutely on an impressive upward trajectory very similar to Michigan State, telling by ND’s National Championship appearance and the recent increased scouting personnel at Michigan State games.
Congratulations to The Ohio State Buckeyes and Ryan Day
Congratulations to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the 2024-25 National Champions! For the first time since the 2014 season, the Buckeyes have found themselves at the top again. Here’s to celebrating an incredible season, Coach Day’s strategic genius, and the spirit of Ohio State football. The flag-plant likelihood for this game is low, as it’s not all we have. National Champs again. O-H..!
