Zach Charbonnet is a great buy considering his quiet production above Ken Walker and his current price when compared to Walker. Whether you’re building for the future or competing this year, Charbonnet’s potential makes him an excellent investment.
Charbonnet’s potential as an NFL running back is hard to ignore. During his last season at UCLA, he accrued 1,359 yards and 14 touchdowns. The season before that, he gained 1,137 yards and 13 touchdowns. A great college career resulted in him being selected 52nd overall in the 2nd round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. This was a shocking pick, as the Seahawks picked Walker a year before that, also with a 2nd round pick. This adds justification to the Seahawks pick, as it came with a lot of criticism since they could’ve focused on other team needs.
While Ken Walker is seen as the outright RB1 for the Seahawks, Charbonnet’s performance metrics suggest strong competition. Charbonnet actually outperformed Walker in specific areas like yards per carry—4.28 to Walker’s 4.13. Given the fact that both were high draft picks just a year apart, it’s within reason to suspect the Seahawks may see great value in Charbonnet. It wouldn’t be surprising if he pushes Walker for more carries or even the starting role.
At the moment, Charbonnet can be nabbed for a late 2nd round pick in Superflex leagues. Considering his potential upside compared to other players available at that pick, Charbonnet is a steal. For contending teams, he offers immediate depth and possible startability if he overtakes Walker on the depth chart. Especially considering how the person who he is competing for snaps with, Walker, is worth a mid to late 1st round pick, this price is a great high-reward, mid-risk type of a situation.
The main concern surrounding Charbonnet is how the new offensive coordinator will manage him. There are many questions, such as will he see the same potential that many fantasy analysts do? Or will he favor Ken Walker more? While this is a valid concern, Charbonnet’s skillset and past performances suggest that, at the worst, Charbonnet’s current status as the RB2 has high job-security.
With all things considered, Charbonnet is a player to target in fantasy football. Whether your team is in a rebuilding phase or contending for a championship this year, His high potential and competitive performance metrics makes him a valuable asset with high reward potential. If you have the capital to acquire Charbonnet at his current market value, make sure you do so. He could very well end up being the cornerstone of your fantasy team’s future success.
