Khalil Shakir showed great potential in 2023 and is currently the third WR option on the Buffalo Bills depth chart. Starting in Week 7 in the 2023 season, Shakir averaged a solid 8.9 fantasy points per game. Being behind receivers like Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis makes his performance even more significant. Given these factors, and considering he is only 24 years old, Shakir is a player you should seriously consider adding to your fantasy roster.
As of now, Shakir is listed at the top of the Bills’ depth chart as the #1 WR. His age and current upward trajectory makes him not just a short-term asset, but a possible significant contributor for the future. Drafted in the fifth round (148th overall) in 2022, Shakir’s college career at Boise State provided a solid foundation. He had 1,117 yards and 7 touchdowns in his final season. Further, he has shown solid athletic ability as evidenced by his 8.01 Relative Athletic Score (RAS).
Owners in Superflex leagues can currently acquire Shakir for a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick. Considering the other options available at that value in drafts, Shakir is undoubtably one of the highest upside choices. Additionally, he is under contract for another two seasons through the 2025-26 season. For rebuilding teams, Shakir offers potential long term value. Contending teams can also benefit from his current value, especially if he does end up as the #1 WR option in Buffalo this year.
However, we will acknowledge that there are current concerns. The WR room in Buffalo is relatively unclear, with new competitors like Keon Coleman and veterans Curtis Samuel and Chase Claypool being added this offseason. The Bills also have TE Dalton Kincaid. It is easy to see how this is a risk to Shakir’s target share this season. Despite these challenges, Shakir has the skill set to secure a role. Even with a consistent role not promised for him, the current price of him is worth this risk.
Despite the uncertainties, Khalil Shakir is a great buy for both rebuilding and contending fantasy football teams. His solid performances in recent games shows that he has an ability to deliver. Given his skill set, age, and the current market value, he is a worthy investment. If you can afford the price, adding Shakir to your roster could be a league winning move, whether its for this year or future years.
