The Bucky Irving fantasy 2026 stock chart is drifting sideways on a shoulder report nobody can fully read yet. A year ago he was one of the best young running backs in football. Now he heads into OTAs with a shoulder that has not been cleared, a brand-new committee partner in the room, and an RB2-range price tag that is begging you to either pound the table or quietly look away. The cloud around his situation is real. That is exactly what makes this one of the most interesting RBs to price in the 2026 offseason.
So let us dive into Bucky’s situation. Should you buy the dip on a 23-year-old who already has a 1,000-yard rookie season banked, or is the shoulder a flashing yellow light you should ignore? The window to decide is right now.
The Buccaneers may not have him fully cleared for the start of OTAs, and the shoulder needed an offseason procedure to fix. Irving is expected to be limited through the late-May-to-early-June OTA window and the June 16-18 minicamp before the team targets a full green light by training camp in July.
It is not all storm clouds. Greg Auman of Fox Sports has the rehab proceeding on schedule, which is the phrase you want to hear in May. The context that matters: this shoulder, combined with a foot/ankle issue, cost Irving seven games from Week 5 to Week 12 last season. He came back for the stretch run but never produced the way 2024 Bucky did.
This is why the panic should have a ceiling. As a fourth-round rookie in 2024, Bucky Irving led all rookies in rushing yards (1,122) and rushing touchdowns (8), adding 47 catches for 392 yards to clear 1,500 scrimmage yards and land on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. His 5.4 yards per carry was the third-highest mark in NFL history among rookies with at least 200 carries, behind only Adrian Peterson and Clinton Portis. Those numbers look like a three-down back who can win on the ground, in the screen game, and on third down.
Here is the wrinkle that changes the math from last offseason. Tampa Bay went out and signed Kenneth Gainwell to a two-year deal, welcoming a back coming off a career year in Pittsburgh where he posted more than 1,000 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns. Gainwell is a legitimate passing-down weapon who, on paper, slots in directly behind Irving on the depth chart and gives the staff a real reason to manage Irving’s workload coming off surgery.
Sean Tucker is still around as the third option and a change-of-pace flier, but the headline is the Irving-Gainwell pairing. The optimistic read is that Gainwell is insurance and a passing-down complement who keeps Irving fresh. The pessimistic read is that a fully healthy Irving still cedes a chunk of the receiving work that helped make his rookie season so valuable in PPR. Both readings start from the same fact: this is a more crowded backfield than the one Irving dominated as a rookie, and one where his front office clearly valued insurance for himself.

Bucky is going around the RB2 range in redraft right now, and that is a discount on a back who, healthy, easily profiles as a RB1. The injury is the reason the price is soft, and a player whose only issue is “not cleared in May, on track for July” is exactly the kind of dip dynasty managers love buying. You are paying RB2 money for an RB1 outcome with an injury tax baked in.
But there is a real contingency. The shoulder is not fully cleared, and the Gainwell signing means a slow recovery has a ready-made replacement to soak up touches. If you can stash Gainwell late as a handcuff, do it. If you do decide to acquire Bucky, the time to do so at a discount is before he laces up at camp and the market re-rates him.
The bottom line is simple. The shoulder is a real risk and the committee chatter is real noise, but neither erases what Irving showed across 17 games of healthy football. He is the lead in his backfield, and the discount on a 23-year-old lead back does not stay open forever. The risk is too high for us to be buying, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should be selling him with knowledge of the undeniable talent he showed as a rookie.
